SELF_PORTRAITS

These portraits are composed to suggest the type of framing found on sites like YouTube and MySpace where people assert themselves into social networks using self made portraiture as a stand in or symbol to identify them. This type of tele-interaction causes a paradoxical relationship between artist and audience and a hyper-awareness of the device. I am interested in this form of representation for its uniqueness to our time. They are a normal and seemingly unchallenged part of the virtual landscape. I find irony in the action of turning the camera in on the self, using the real world as a backdrop to the virtual experience.
