This collaborative work experiments with the hybridization of forms derived from live performance, sculpture, music, analog and digital sound.
Valerie George plays a vintage drum-set as Felecia Carlisle plays two laptop instruments. This piece is a montage of hip-hop, samba, heavy metal, and dance beats layered with glitchy, percussive, electronic sounds and visual animations. The DRUMS_PROJECT takes advantage of forms found in different architectural spaces and evolves with each performance.

VIOLIN_MONUMENT
(working title: Picasso's Violin)
This piece is in progress . The sounds for this project are based on different variations of the whole tone scale. The visual accompaniment is an abstract composition of shapes that are inspired by the traditional violin and intended to dramatize its dynamic curves and volumes. The character of the sound is ethereal and open-ended, relying on improvisation and chance.
Sketching out how the final performance is to be constructed is a huge part of the process, seeing it recorded and eventually building up the right visual for the right sound is key. I want to make a temporary monument, placing the violinist above the audience in order to carry a theme of theatricality while projecting the light directly on her body, enlarging her shadows to a monumental scale. This piece will be framed as "public" sculpture.

NEW_YORK
These sounds are captured from everyday life on Manhattan. This piece abstractly portrays the drilling totality of noise found not only in NYC, but most urban centers where silence is unattainable. This piece imagines that the viewer has the control to "turn it off".
NEW_YORK is a discreet installation that is specifically designed for the traditional white cube of a gallery space.
